Lord Buddha is not a God. You do not pray.. He will NOT give you any thing.. He will NOT talk to you.
The statue is there to remember the teachings by… Some Buddhists chant some stuff just to give thanks for his teachings that’s all.(Like you remember yr parents for leaving you a fortune…. LOL)
When u see one.. just have a pleasant feeling in yr mind.. Come to present moment (Meditate a little…. If you are walking Be mindful about that for a moment)
Do not rub .. Do u like if people rub you when they see you… (Just a joke..:)
Dont feel stupid walking by it …. do u feel stupid walking by yr ‘best loved’ teacher?
You can meditate near it.. let it give you inspiration
What are the proper things to do? Well, feel stupid and walk by it until the day you do not feel stupid when you walk by it.
Buddhist statues are for you to remember the teaching of buddha, not to pray to a piece of stone.
first off make sure that the Buddha statue is the Buddha and not the usual ” buddha ” (the smiling chubby guy…another story…)
then keep that image in your heart, with respect for his teachings, his compassion and his example.
Why worship a statue? Have you not heard that there is a God that will talk to you and his name is Jesus Christ. I have a Bhudda statue and have waited for 50 years for him to talk to me. But it says nuttin! pfff!
You use it as a moment to remember to be mindful. You do not pray to statues, leave icon worship to theistic religions.
hmm… well, a vacation weekend getaway could be a great way to break the ice!http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3172/2679…
whatever you do, don’t pat the statue on the head benny hill style
buddhists regard touching the head as offensive.
You don’t pray to a Buddha statue. It’s simply a tool to focus your thoughts on meditation.
You don’t prey to the statue,-pjust like Christians don’t pray to crucifix
It’s there to help you focus
Smile inside, and remember to breathe.
