If he is not Buddhist can he have a statue of the Buddha, or is that idolatry in his religion?

Personally I would not, because we are commanded not to recognise any god other than our G-d.
But I suppose that so long as the Jewish person involved is not actively worshipping the statue, then ‘technically’ there’s no harm….
I would say yes it is alright. But I would not have one personally just because I don’t like the way Buddha looks(that look of inner peace on his face is suspicious)
yes…….it is possible if a jew can turn into an christian then they can most likely turn buddist
One Answer above says “picture of Buddha” and Question says “statue of Buddha”. My understanding is idol statues are prohibited to be owned and utilized Jewish people, even bought or sold to non-Jewish people. “Public domains” are exempt from Jewish Law.
I suppose “traditional” Jewish person would not live in a home with idols either.
I have a picture in my apartment of the Buddha (my roommate is Buddhist, but not very idolatrous) and I asked my rabbi about it; he said that as long as I do not worship the statue (to me, it is a piece of art) it is not a problem; however he said we should avoid buying idols because it encourages sellers to keep selling them.
Only if he intends to sell it for a substantial profit.
