The fat, laughing buddha is not Siddhartha Gautama. He was a chinese monk named Budai (his japanese name is Hotei).
he was siddhartha gautama._|_ . and the people call him Buddha
your mother ok stupid
Nope! Buddha preached against gluttony. The “fat & happy Buddha” statues were to represent that a person would be “prosperous and happy” if they followed his ways.
Siddhartha Gautama was rather thin, before becoming the Buddha he practiced fasting and became extremely thin as a result. The large chap is another monk from china, from what I was told he made himself fat to lessen his attractiveness to women in the local villages (as before becoming a monk he was reputed as being very handsome).
This was how it was expailned to me anyway, I hope it helps
No, he was rather skinny.
That Buddha is not the original Buddha.
(yes, there is more than 1 Buddha)
The person above is correct. Also, in religious art, the subject is sometimes altered to protray a certain quality. Sometimes in medieval Christian art, Jesus was shown on the cross as emaciated. He wouldn’t have been, but it emphasized the idea of sacrifice.
