I’ve noticed whenever I go to nail salons that are owned by foreigners, that they seem to always have a statue of buddha and they have it surrounded by food and usually what looks like a cup of coffee, what is this about?

It’s not rotten when they put it there–actually, it’s very wrong to let the offering stagnate, but understandably, the people who make the offering are very busy and might forget to remove it.
One of the sweetest, and probably the funniest offerings I had ever seen was at a Buddist grave in Hawaii. There was a can of budweiser beer for every new year left there–neatly, of course–and thankfully no one had messed with them. There were cans so old that they were tin and not aluminum.
Don’t ask me why it’s not consumed-it’s not my religion. And I don’t think dead people need beer anyway
Most buddhists are not really understand what they are doing? The fruits or foods are fresh at the time of offerings but they tend to forget or believe they are to be place for certain times. The truth case is the reverse. The surrounding place of the buddha statue must be kept clean at all times and usually fruits are the best.Only plain water are used for offering. All kinds of offering represent a certain things like water represent mindset purification….
well because at one part of time they had no offering to worship when they had a problem so using old food it represents they are willing to give up on whatever problem is going on so they worship for a new blessing from their God!
It’s an offering to the spirits of their ancestors.
It was fresh when it was placed. Somebody forgot to eat it.
because Buddah is fat & he’ll eat anything…
including your children if you dont bring him food…
Well, they believe that by doing so, the food is being offered to their ancestors.. It’s a way of paying respect.. I come from a partially buddhist family so, i guess i’m pretty sure about this one.. =)
