Catholics Please Answer… About Ecumenism?
If you were true Christians please explain the following:
In 1986, why did Pope John Paul II organize an ecumenical service with all major religions around the world including Hindu worshippers, Buddhist worshippers, North American Indian witch doctors, fire worshippers, etc. Why did he have an agreement with those people who don’t worship the One God who made the heavens and the earth but instead worship idols made of hands?
In 2 Corinthians 5:14-18 it says “Be not yoked unequally with unbelievers; for what common ground is there between righteousness and unrighteousness, or what association is there between light and darkness? Or what harmony is there between Christ and Belial, or what partnership between a believer and unbeliever? What agreement has God’s temple with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
The Pope even placed the statue of Buddha on the altar in St. Peter’s Church in Assissi and had a Buddhist worship ceremony there. If you were a genuine Christian with conviction, what will you feel? Would you just ignore this matter? The Pope’s action was a total contradiction to the truth and to the above verses in the bible said by the Apostle Paul. That was unthinkable in the early church! I believe, Jesus’ prayer of unity is only among Christians, those who believe in His Name, but excluding pagans.
The pagans must be evangelized, said Jesus, but not having an agreement with their ungodly beliefs.

The above video actually happened in 1986 period.
The pope’s action, I believe, was the fulfillment of biblical prophecy about “the desecration of the temple by pagans” and the Abomination of desolation mentioned in the book of Daniel and Matthew 24:15
